Can anyone tell me the last time the Montreal Canadiens, or any team for this matter, held a gala for any Stanley Cup victory in the history of this great sport. If there has been at any time that a gala/dinner has taken place to mark an anniversary for a Stanley Cup win, let me know. Anyways, I find it kinda sad that the Leafs have to celebrate a previous cup victory in the first place. If my team had a party to mark a decade or two since they won the Stanley Cup I would be embarrassed. I mean, doesn’t this signify 40 years of being losers? I don’t see the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, or Chicago Blackhawks having festivities for their last Stanley Cup. It’s been 31 years since the Flyers last won the cup, 34 years for the Bruins, and a whopping 45 years for the Blackhawks.

As a matter of fact the Toronto Maple Leafs have crossed the line from being desperate to just plain stupid. I’m sure if they won the cup in ‘93, ‘94, ‘99, or ‘02 that this gala would never be happening (these years are the closest the Leafs came to winning in the last 15 years). Why? Because the Leafs wouldn’t have a reason to commemorate those who were part of their championship in 1967. They wouldn’t be losers (which they certainly are). Hence, this celebration doesn’t mark the 40th anniversary of the last Maple Leafs championship, but instead, marks 40 years of their desperation to be recognized and remembered as Stanley Cup champions.
