So the new RBK EDGE jerseys have hit the streets and are coming off the shelves like water. Are you stylin’ or is your team’s jersey something that you’re ashamed to put on? There are some teams that have decided to go the ultra-extreme direction in designing their jerseys and others who stayed on the conservative side.
So, we here at HabsCast have all the new trends, styles, looks and fads for this upcoming NHL season. Gone are the horizontal lines of the 90’s and instead replaced with new slimming RBK Edge vertical lines. The new NHL jersey incorporates lean fitting design with aerodynamics and simplicity. Nevertheless, with all things good and wholesome, there is always the ugly and sour and that’s why HabsCast isn’t afraid to tell you… what not to wear.
The Good
Tampa Bay did an excellent job re-designing their look. The original Lighting jersey had been in circulation since the team originally expanded in 1992 and was starting to look a little tired. The two tone colored shoulders had to go. The straight black is a much slim-er look and their sure to be a fan favorite come fall.
Atlanta’s baby blue home unis are bound to be a hit this season. The neck design has been updated to feature an old school lace up design. On the inside of the arms the Thrashers have also added some navy blue panels adding some much needed contrast to this design
Who cares that Washington has not had a winning season in years. This season they going to be one of the most stylish teams in the whole NHL. Throw back jerseys are common place in pro-sports today and the Caps get props for their return to form. Gone are the white house and eagle logo replaced by the classic and elegant Capitals printed logo with a subtle three star pattern above the print. Red is definitely the hot colour this season and don’t be surprise to see Caps making head way this season.
The San Jose Sharks did something great with their jerseys. I’m lovin’ the colors and logo! This is definitely something to wear if you’re a Sharks fan or not.
The Classic
Some jersey were not meant to be redesigned this section is to give props to the Red Wings, Blackhawks, Rangers, Habs and yes even the Leafs for keeping their original motives. Keeping their visually soothing horizontal lines these jersey will continue to be fan favorites for years.
The Ugly
After trading away the face of the franchise Oilers management must have thought that a fresh uniform would bring angry fans back into the stadium. Instead of returning to classic Oilers blue and orange the team went further away from the glory days with too much vertical stripping. Why they felt that their jersey should look like a team from the south (Nashville and Florida to be specific) I have no idea but their is nothing unique about this edition of the Oilers uniforms.
The Vancouver Canucks decided to go for the “I was really drunk when I designed this” look. Why would they put “Vancouver” across the chest? Why?!?
After having a season to digest the new vertical jerseys, the Buffalo Sabers still don’t look any better to me. Jumping the gun a season ago with an early release of the jersey the Streak still sucks. The colour is good but its no substitute for the original Sabers jersey. And whats the deal this the number on the chest.
The New Jersey Devils! Their is nothing New about these jerseys, I know that their main focus is winning but the team wont have any fashion success sporting those old rags. I purpose they drop red and switch to a classic black look. The Devils are a notoriously boring team to watch but why not do it in style? Maybe their having money issues in the swamp and don’t want to shell out for new uniform designs (right).
The Dallas Stars’ home jersey is hideous and should be burned. They look like basketball jerseys for crying out loud! Why does there have to be two sets of numbers on the front of the jersey? This is something for Stars fans not to wear. Maybe if nobody buys them they’ll realize how horrible they actually are and redesign them. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!!
The Official What Not to Wear Jersey
The jersey that no one will be wearing this season without even thinking twice is the New York Islanders. Once a proud franchise the Blue and Orange have never looked so bad ( and yes I remember the fisherman uniform) Islanders had a classic look that has been replaced with, well words just can’t do it justice. This jersey is terrible and even without Cashin’ Yashin sporting it.
