Montreal’s preseason is coming to an end. Yet, Guy Carbonneau wishes he had more time. The real deal season is approaching and our head coach still hasn’t resolved our #2 goalie dilemma.
Early in the preseason, Carbonneau made it very clear that Huet is his number one goaltender and his main priority. Making it evident that Carey Price was gliding sadly back to the AHL.
But why? It just doesn’t make sense… Carbo’s energy and focus should be on our young and talented prospects Carey Price and Jaroslav Halak? The Habs future and potential saviors.
Let’s get things straight, Cristobal Huet is not a number one goalie. He hasn’t even played 50 games in a season. To say that he is our number one goalie is wrong, especially when the Habs have 2 young stars in the making.
Now, a guy who does know what he’s talking about (Bob Gainey), says that there might be enough work for Carey Price in the NHL. This indicates two things: (1) his non-confidence in Cristobal Huet, and (2) Carey Price will be on the Habs come October 3rd.
It’s only right to keep Price on the team. He needs as much NHL experience as possible, especially at this point in his young career. Jaroslav Halak is also young and just as deserving as Carey Price, however, he doesn’t have the same prestige as Price.
Carbo needs to realize that Cristobal Huet is going to be gone come next season or perhaps even this one. Therefore, he should give the most promising prospect, in this case Carey Price, the best shot possible at the NHL. There is no point in sending him to the AHL for a long and boring season. Give the kid a challenge and see what he does with it. The bottom line is Carey Price is the future of this organization and the sooner he starts the better.

I don’t think that Carey Price is that good of a player. His blocker side is awful and he has a problem while behind in a game. This kid was an awful draft pick. Sure he won the world junior cup but he is not fit for the NHL.
