The Montreal Canadiens jump start their season later tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes.
The 07-08 season is already filled with questions. Will the Canadiens make the playoffs? Will Carey Price be the #1 goalie by the end of the season? Will Alex Kovalev perform? Well, even though these questions won’t be answered tonight, this is where it all starts.

In recent past, The Canadiens seem to have explosive starts but burnout right around Christmas time. It should be interesting to see how the season plays out.

Here are my projected lines for tonight:

Forwards
Higgins – Koivu – Ryder
Kotsitsyn – Grabovski – Kovalev
Latendresse – Plekanec – Smolinski
Dandenault – Chipchura – Kostopolous

Defense
Markov – Komisarek
Brisebois – Hamrlik
Bouillon – Streit

Goalie
Huet
Price

The first two lines are easy because we all know Carbonneau wants these guys together, however, I’m predicting that Begin and Murray will be out of the lineup. Kostopolous will fight need be and Chipchura will bring good balance to our PK unit. These aren’t official lines but I think they’re a good bet.

Carolina, on the other hand, has lots to prove this season. After winning the Stanley Cup in 2005-2006, they missed the playoffs in 2006-2007 (talk about extreme opposites). The players to watch tonight will be captain Rod Brind’Amour, star forward Eric Staal and goalie Cam Ward. These three will lead this team wherever they go this season. Another player to watch out for tonight is Erik Cole or “the Hab Killer.” In his career against Montreal he has scored 12 goals and 6 assists in 17 games.

Prediction: Montreal 5, Carolina 3

These two teams are always intense whenever they play each other (Remember 2006 Playoffs), so this game should be a fun one to watch and stay tuned for HabsCast tonight!

    Hey Matthew,

Thx for the heads up. I don’t know if you got those lines from tsn.ca but the lines they give are potential lines and aren’t official and nor are mine…lol.

    Peace

    Hey,

No I found them on the Gazette’s Habs inside/out blog, (www.habsinsideout.com). According to Pat Hickey they’re official.

I’m looking forward to seeing how the 2nd line works out with Kovy playing with the youngsters.

It should be interesting to how they interact with each other. Kovalev told them to not look for him on the ice and to just play their game. We’ll see how it goes. I’m also looking forward in seeing how the plekanec line does…I don’t know how Latendresse will fit in but I guess we’ll find out
