In a surprising move today (or at least to me) Guy Carbonneau has announced that Carey Price will start in goal for the Montreal Canadiens against the Ottawa Senators. Talk about throwing a guy into the wolf’s den. If Carey Price thought Pittsburgh was challenging, he’s in for quite the night against Heatly, Alfreddson, Spezza, and company. This will be quite the test for Price who has only played his first NHL game last week. I’m confident that he will be just fine but I really thought Huet played decent enough against Florida to get the start tomorrow night. Will Price be able to control the top offensive line in the league? We’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we.

Wow, I believe this is a really risky move. If Price doesn’t play well this will hinder his development and it will also dampen Huet’s confidence.
If Price is going to be a backup that plays a decent number of games (like when Huet is injured), he needs experience soon.

Well if Price needs experience… he has to play.
I can undertsand your scared of Ottawa (who isn’t), but that doesn’t mean Price won’t play well… if anything it’s a test to see just how capable he is
If he wins it doesn’t mean he’s the next Roy, but it will definitly help him be a better goalie. As for Huet, it shouldn’t bother him to much… he’s been very solid so far.
Huet also gets injured frequently, so mixing the goalies gives him more recovery time between games.

Gross…I think what you’re trying to say is if price wants experience he needs to play…which I completely agree…What I don’t agree is with the way Carbonneau is doing it. It seems he’s trying to prove a point to Bob Gainey or something…I really hope Price proves Carbonneau wrong, that he does belong in the NHL.
Adrian, I agree that it’s a risky move and one that Carbonneau seems willing to take. I certainly hope Price will play well and even if he does lose it isn’t the end of the World. Carey Price is the kind of player that doesn’t give up, which is a major reason why he has won all of the championships and awards in the past.

That’s an interesting point that Carbonneau might be trying to prove a point to Bob Gainey. I didn’t think of that one.
