Greatest Goalie in NHL History?

Who do you think is the greatest goalie in NHL history?

Do stats tell the entire story?

Was a goaltender truly great if he had an offensive juggernaut in front of him?

How much did a team’s style of play help a goaltender achieve lofty numbers?

Does the lack of offense during an era affect how a goaltender is viewed when compared to other goaltenders from other eras?

What are your thoughts?

Who do you regard as the greatest goalie ever in the NHL?

Patrick Roy; there really ought to be no argument about this one. Most wins, 3 Cups, Conn Smythes, Team Leader, and a little bit insane (which you need to be phenomenal, and a goalie). The only other guy that has a chance is Vezina, and that will change in fifty years when they rename it the Roy.

Haha … rename it the “ROY”

I like Brodeur… Cups, Lots of wins, Shutouts, and mostly because i actually got to watch him play.

    Vezina’s prety great too.

You’re right about Brodeur being amazing, and he may even break some of Roy’s records, but he did not essentially create an entire type of goaltending that has created a ton of goalies out of French speaking Canada. Brodeur followed Roy in that manner. AND Roy did beat Brodeur in a seven game series for the cup.

Which cup are you speaking of?

    Can’t remember…

Anyways, Brodeur has “HALL OF FAME” written all over him.

OOOO yah roy might have won cups but they had ridiculous fowards and defencemen.Brodeur is the best to ever play the game no question has he ever given up 10 goals in a game no because brodeur is the best to ever play the game. However with that comes a new legend ROBERTO LUONGO boys he will be the next greatest goaltender if he can ever play for a newjersey or a vintage colorado

hahaha BRODEUR for sure boys hes is gonna snap everyone of roys records hes only what 50 wins away from all time wins which he will break next year 12 away from all time shutouts his save percentage and goals against is unbelievable for how much he plays. and how much he deos play gets him the greatest goaltender record. luongo will be the only one that will beat him cause he plays for a decent team now that doesnt make him face 50 shots a game

Brodeur beats Roy. Brodeur is the best goalie to ever play. He is going to have the most wins and shutouts. He is also the only goalie who can compete in today’s game without being married to the butterfly style.
