June 30, 1992- Traded by the Quebec Nordiques to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Peter Forsberg, Steve Duchesne, Kerry Huffman, Mike Ricci, Ron Hextall, Chris Simon, Philadelphia’s 1993 1st round draft choice, Philadelphia’s 1994 1st round draft choice and $15,000,000.
The Other trade that didn’t happen
The trade from the Quebec Nordiques that would have sent Eric Lindros to the New York Rangers was for Doug Weight, Tony Amonte, Alexei Kovalev, John Vanbiesbrouck and three first round draft picks (1993, 1994 & 1995) and $12 million.
Now what you think would have happened if the Rangers won the trade. For those of you that don’t know - long story short - the trade actually came down to an arbitrator and the Flyers trade won.
Having another big name in New York, after Messier finished, might have helped the NHL ratings since New York is the biggest market.
As for the trade itself, I can’t really say anything about the draft picks because we can’t really say for certain who they would’ve drafted.
But for the players involved, you gotta wonder if the Avalanche themselves would have been successful without Peter Forsberg. Now while the Rangers offered good players, none could be seen as a game breaker like Forsberg, except maybe Weight.
As for Philly, who knows they might have been better off not making the trade because they would still have Forsberg themselves and still have a few good years left out of Hextall, in which they might have actually won a cup.
And on another note who knows if Big E’s career would still be going strong now because the injuries he suffered in Philly might not have happened in New York, like the time he blew out his knee becasue he skated into a rut in the ice. But of course he would have been playing Stevens more because they would have been in the same division and Lindros could have suffered a concussion earlier in his career.
So what do you think could have happened had the Rangers been awarded the trade?

The Habs wouldn’t have Kovalev. Previously i wouldn’t say that is a bad thing, but he has had a good season to date.

honestly eric lindros wouldnt have succeeded anywhere.he thought he was a hot tamali and thought he could play with the big boys in the nhl didnt think about all the work that needs to be put in to being an nhler.he had an ego and thought about himself fate caught up to that loser and thats why he never did anything.what a dissapointment he was to us fans of the nhl.
